White By The Beach Photo Frame

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

Why is it that white goes so well with beach themes? For me white makes me think of sea spray and wide open spaces, so maybe that’s it. Either way, when I bought a plain white tall frame I knew I wanted to fill it with beach photos:

Here’s how the frame looked when I bought it:

I filled it with photos from beach days:

Added a few rubs ons (Tim Holtz ‘Life Quotes’):

Then I made a few starfish, by forming three balls of white Fimo modelling clay:

Then pinching and pulling until I had five ‘arms’:

Slowly shaping them to make thinner starfish arms:

Then I used a kebab stick to make little indents in the surface:

I baked them in the oven (according to the instructions on my clay). After baking I gave them a coat of Crystal Stickles:

And added them to my frame with a sparkly bead and a couple of pearly beads for each star – I glued them all on with Glossy Accents:

That was it! I didn’t want to clutter it up too much, as that would have overshadowed the photos:

These are some of my favourite photos ever so it’s great to have them on display!

Be Inspired:

Frame a photo (or more) and alter the frame just a little

Make something from modelling clay, or find another material to make a starfish

Use rub-ons on something other than paper

What collection of photos would you put in this frame?

  • I’ve seen those picture frames before and weeeeeell, look what you’ve done with it! Very clever – and quite the conversational piece! I’m not sure what I’d put in it – but be sure it would be of my three girls 🙂

So love the white with the blue skies! I might put shots of my flowers in white. Flowers always make me feel good.

I love the way you dressed this up with out cluttering it up. I like the beachy pics and embellishments against the white.

I love what you’ve done with this frame. I showed it to hubby as well and he said “Wow … can you do one like that?!” 🙂

  • I think the frame does beg for a themed set of photos – wedding? new baby? Love how you dressed it up with dimensional items.

  • Loving my rub ons at the moment but not thought of putting them on to a frame. I’m using them on ribbon quite a lot right now.

This looks amazing Jennifer – as you say, white always sets off beach photos perfectly. This reminds me that I have a very similar frame tucked away in a corner of my craft room … I would like to fill it with pictures of family who are far away. Those clay starfish are brilliant! :o)

I never would have thought of decorating something like this. It just adds something extra to it that makes it look expensive and chic. I love the frame also, its not often you see a frame that size and shape.
