My Favourite Way To Cleanse – Refresh Layout

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

In my word of the year page (HERE) I mentioned that I wanted to spend more time in the sea. Going for a swim in the sea is my favourite way to cleanse, and the cold English sea doesn’t put me off at all – I just run in quick before I can change my mind!

Here’s a layout all about it…

Refresh:

Refresh Layout by Jennifer Grace

It shows my sister, me, and my mum in the sea last year!

To make a splash-filled background I used my Happy Scatter Raindrops Stencil, but I turned it around so the water drops were bouncing upwards (I stuck the stencil down with low-tack masking tape so it wouldn’t move about):

Then I mixed some modelling paste with some aqua acrylic paint:

And spread the mixture through the stencil using an old library card:

While it was still wet I lifted off the stencil (and cleaned it quickly) then shook some blue glitter over the top for a bit of subtle shimmer:

And left it to dry before shaking off the excess.

I also added extra detail to a glass nugget, by putting some Glossy Accents on the back and tipping on some chunky glitter:

After it was dry I could turn it over, so it looks like the shimmering sea when you look down into it:

I also used the Refresh Free Cut File for my title:

I used an Elle’s Studio tag to list the reasons I love to swim in the sea:

And I used one of my Seaside Smiles Wood Veneers, a whale, to make the page feel extra happy:

Just look at his cute little smile!

Add glitter to something transparent

Do you ever swim in the sea?

The stencilled splashes of water look great and I love the “blinged” glass nugget! I love the sea too, but rarely get further than paddling up to my knees!

I love what you did with the glass bead! I love the ocean but I definitely don’t go in like I did when I was younger. I think I’ve learned to respect rip-tides more and I’m generally hauling around my 6yr old so I’m not taking him out too far.

  • What a wonderful photograph!!!! Beautifully scrapped!
Love your LO – love THAT stencil!
I live near the sea, I’m very blessed to see it from my house, and being two streets away from it. I totally get what you are saying – our water isn’t always that warm either – but its refreshing 🙂

  • It’s been a while since I’ve been to the beach, but when I lived closer I enjoyed braving the waves in the Gulf on the Texas coast.

I’m in love with this layout, especially the little whale, the stenciled rain drops, and the marble that you made into sea glass.

  • What a great layout! I do swim in the sea, but mostly abroad! The last time I swam in England must be about 10 years ago – I just find it too cold!

I love what you did to the glass element. That chunky glitter is gorgeous. I wish I lived closer to the sea. There’s something spiritual about it in my opinion. Probably because I so seldom get to go. I love the photo of you and your fam. Its such a cute arrangement.
