Confined To A Small Space – Art In Miniature

(This post is part of my Focus Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the list of all the posts HERE!)

Here’s another way to focus your crafting – by making some art in miniature!

Art In Miniature Tags at Jennifer Grace Creates

These three tags were inspired by pins of artwork on Pinterest. The one on the left is inspired by THIS PIECE, the middle one is inspired by THIS ART, and the one on the right is inspired by THIS CANVAS.

I printed off the inspiration pieces so I could refer to them while I was working:

And I collected 3 tags – the middle one is a purchased tag, and I used it as a template to cut two more tags from white art paper:

I started the wreath tag by stamping the leaves and berries from this Avery Elle ‘Joy To The World’ stamp set:

Then I stamped some flowers from an old MME stamp set. I included a purple one because there was some purple on the inspiration piece (I would never normally use purple) and I’m so glad I did as it gave it extra depth:

I finished the tag off with a Gossamer Blue sentiment and some gems:

For the silhouette tag I watered down four colours of acrylic paint:

And painted them in an arch pattern, with the lightest at the bottom going to the darkest at the top. I didn’t let it dry between colours as I wanted them to blend a bit:

Then I used some more stamps to add a hot air balloon, tightrope girl, and a border, as silhouettes on top of the sky:

And I finished it off with a few star gems:

For the boat & sunset tag I began with colouring pencils (Derwent Coloursoft), drawing the sea, a yellow sky, and an orange sun:

Then I swiped across it all with clean water:

When it was dry I added a stamped boat which I coloured in with Promarkers, a sentiment, and some swirly waves cut from patterned paper:

I’m very pleased with my three works of art, and I can’t wait to add them to a project or present:

Or I might just hang them on my wall!

Be Inspired:

Make something in miniature – eg. a work of art, or a small card, or a mini book

Stamp a pretty wreath with words inside

Paint or colour a sunset background

Which tag do you like the best? Do you ever look at works of art for inspiration?

I’ll see you again in an hour,

Jennifer x

Those are so pretty. I have a small canvas I am wanting to do a scene with a vacation photo. I will have to work on that next.

  • Oooh I really love these brilliant ideas Jennifer. My fave one is the far right one with the boat on, just because I love the sea really. Such a clever artistic idea

  • I really liked your other set of tags….and these ones too…..I think my fave is the centre one….but if I was to make one I’d probably have a go at the ‘rainbow’ paint effect cos it looks awesome and FUN!!! And yup, I often look at advertisements for inspiration…especially print ones …..not so much art works, though….

  • These are fab. I like to create tags. They can be less intimidating at time, especially when you want to try something different

  • Your tags are gorgeous as are the ones used as inspiration. I’m keen to have a go at painting a sunset. Can’t ever remember doing one before.

  • The wreath tag is my favorite! I have used art work as INSPIRATION & am hoping to start getting out for INSPIRATION days again soon, which are perfect for gathering ideas.

Oh, making small crafty scenes and tags, ATC’s etc. are one of my favorite things to do. You can experiment without committing to a large project. I have gotten more creative with techniques on small projects than I ever have with “normal sized” cards! My favorite tag is the boat scene. Love the watercolored background!

  • I like the silhouette tag. I prefer working small rather than large. Rarely do 12 x 12 lo’s. These are all lovely. Hugz
