Breezy Washing Line Card

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

Something that makes me feel refreshed is when the warmer weather arrives, and it’s time to hang clothes out on the washing line to dry. It’s kind of peaceful watching them swaying in the breeze, and it makes clothes smell so good!

I took that spirit and put it onto a card:

Don’t you think it’s nice and breezy?!

Here’s how to put it together…

Step 1: Choose a card blank and cut two piece of paper to layer on top, but don’t stick the top one on yet:

Step 2: Stipple (don’t brush) some white Gesso or acrylic paint in the centre of the top sheet of paper to lighten it:

Step 3: While that is drying, cut some clothes from scraps of paper. I cut mine freehand but you could draw the shape on the back of the paper first:

Step 4: Once the Gesso is dry, wrap some twine at the top of that piece of patterned paper, sticking it with double-sided tape at the back:

Step 5: Use some little craft pegs to attach your clothes to the washing line. I also put a blob of Glossy Accents behind each peg, and a foam dot or two behind each item of clothing:

Step 6: Stick the patterned paper onto your card blank, and decorate the rest of the card:

Here’s another card using the same technique, but with flags / bunting instead of clothes:

Be Inspired:

Stipple some Gesso or paint at the back of your next project

Add some twine to hang things from

Cut shapes from scraps of paper

Do you love drying your clothes on the line? I hate it in winter when there’s clothes drying all over the house, or I have to run the tumble drier!

Wow what fantastic cards and amazing free hand cutting skills! Simply love both of your cards and the gesso too! We have a drying rack for ours but I wish I could hang ours outside. Enjoy.

Cute cards- the gesso really makes the eye points pop. My son and I take Taekwando classes so between our uniforms which I don’t dry, and all of my husband’s shirts that we dry just enough to get the wrinkles out, there’s always laundry hanging around in our dining room.

I love that first spring day when I can get the washing out on the line and I know what you mean about the nice smell of line dried clothes! These are great cards! Love the little pegs!

  • There’s nothing quite like the smell of washing that’s been dried in the sunshine. Your washing card is bright and sunny, as is your Hola card.

  • What a cute card! I hang a few things to dry on a special rack in the laundry room, but most things go straight into the dryer.

These are gorgeous – love the fresh but vintage feel to them. I know what you mean about that feeling when you can put the washing out on the line at last, it means summer is on the way! :o)

Adorable! I have always resisted buying the tiny clothespins because I didn’t know how I would use them but this is an absolute perfect project for them!
