Baby Girl Mini Book – using Glitz Design Finnley

Hello! Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers across the pond!

Today I’ve got a baby girl mini book to show you. I desperately needed a break from Christmas crafts after all the Frosty Festivities projects!

I’ve had these photos waiting to go in a book for a while. I made a mini using almost the same photos for my Mum, when my daughter was about 6 months old (to thank my Mum for coming to help for the week after baby girl was born), and always intended to make a mini for myself too. My daughter is now 5 years and 8 months old, so it’s taken me a few years! I think I was just waiting for the perfect Glitz Design Finnley collection to come along.

Great Things Come In Small Packages:

How perfect is this Bits & Pieces card for the front cover? The phrase applies to my little baby girl, and to the book itself because it’s mini! Most of the pages measure about 4×6″, but there’s one page which is 5×5″, and some of them have bits that jut out too.

To assemble the mini book I chose all my pages first – using a mix of Finnley Bits and Pieces and What-Nots as well as some papers from the same collection. I put photos on the pages so I knew which order I’d want them to go in, and to make sure I had enough pages (making sure not to put any photos too close to the spine). I scored each piece about ¼” in from the left edge, and pierced 5 holes vertically between the score line and the left edge:

Then I held all the pages together with paperclips, and sewed through the holes to secure the spine – you can see the method I used HERE (photo step-by-step at Design Sponge) or HERE (video tutorial by Elvie Studio). I just stitched at the edge instead of down the middle of some pages.

All that was left was to add some pretty embellishments and journaling!

This is the first photo we took of baby girl, though she was actually 12 hours old by then! I backed the ‘Hello World’ card with some black paper to make the words stand out.

The photo was a little bit small for the hole in the ‘First Time’ card, so I stuck it onto the back of the ‘Itty Bitty One’ card (you’ll see that on the next page) and added a bit of washi tape above the photo – which I also like because it adds a bit of baby-girl pink:

I love how teeny-tiny my baby girl looks on her Daddy’s lap. He looks a bit scared! He says it was the moment when it all became REAL – so the ‘Remember This Moment’ Whatnot was perfect to add to the top of this page!  The ‘Love This’ journal spot is from Chic Tags.

My Mum took this photo as we were leaving the hospital. You can’t tell very well in the photo, but baby has a frilly shawl draped on her which my husband had wrapped around him as a baby. I echoed the frills with the doily behind the photo, and with the super cute dress from the Whatnots.

I had saved this dress just for this project, and to make it extra special I coated it with glossy accents and sprinkled glitter at the bottom while it was still wet:

At this point I set the dress aside to dry. I put it up at my eye-height, well out of reach of children. Then when it was nearly dry, my friend came round. I should have known she’d reach for something pretty – she put her thumb right in the middle when she tried to pick it up!

I could have cried. It was totally ruined. But then I remembered you can buy digital items by Glitz, so I went and bought the Finnley Elements Pack #2, printed the dress out, and repeated the process. I’m so glad I went to that effort as I love it:

I had to include a photo of my Mum with baby girl, and this was the first time little miss ever smiled – I know it was probably not a real smile but I’m going to pretend it is!

I think this page is just dreamy. I used the Feather Roller Doodle with white embossing powder below the photo on the left, and lots of words from the Alphabets and Words Sticker Sheet on the right. They had just the right words to set the scene:

Aw, look at us all gazing adoringly at each other! The ‘Journal Here’ card is from the Color Me Happy collection, plus I added a bit of ‘Choose Happiness’ Tape from the Uncharted Waters collection.

I love how Glitz make so many items that say exactly what my heart is feeling – this ‘The Best Part of Me’ sticker is from the Titles & Accents Sticker Sheet:

After decorating all the pages I embellished the front cover with pretty details, including a couple of Giant Rhinestones of course:

I’m so happy to have a baby girl mini book to display at last! I had scrapped a few of these photos in my 12×12 albums, but I like having mini books too, for visitors to flick though – I can display them on my side table a lot easier!

I’m going to admit that another reason I made this album now is because I’m including it in my application for the Glitz Design Creative Team call. Wish me luck okay?

That is so beautiful Jennifer! Mini Books are my favourite and it is so good to make ones for yourself rather than give them all away as gifts.

  • It’s really gorgeous Jennifer! I love your sense of co-ordination and how you think of the clever little touches that make your projects special and unique. I also like how you don’t make all the pages a uniform size/shape etc – you’re not afraid to let bits stick out over the edges. I need to try this… be a bit more brave and less “controlled”!
I love this book and the photos are so precious.
One day, that itty-bitty little baby girl will show this to her own baby girl/boy and say “Your granny made this – it’s about when Mummy was born”!
