A Quick Notebook – Today is Beautiful

(This post is part of my Onwards and Upwards Blog Event)

After the rather long post an hour ago, I thought a quick tutorial would fit nicely here!

This one is to alter a notebook, to make it into something pretty like this:

Altered Notebook by Jennifer Grace

A lovely, sunny notebook to carry with you, to fill with your hopes, goals, and plans!

The notebook started life like this:

A floppy A5 notebook (approx 8 and 1/4″ by 5 and 3/4″) which came in a pack of 3 for £1!

Here’s how I transformed it:

Step 1: Undo the staples and take the cover off. Use the cover as a template to cut a new cover from patterned paper – my paper is from the Maggie Holmes Collection Paper Pad. Score and fold a line down the middle of the patterned paper cover, for the spine:

Step 2: Staple the new cover on! You’d need a long-reach stapler for this, so if you don’t have one you’ll need to sew the cover on. Or you could just take out the earlier step of taking the other cover off, and glue this cover on top of it instead, but it won’t give quite such a nice finish (and make sure you leave the book closed while it dries, or you won’t be able to shut the notebook!):

Step 3: Decorate it! I kept my decoration quite simple and flat, as I want to be able to throw this in my handbag (or baby change-bag as that’s what I normally carry around at the moment!), without worrying about anything falling off. But you could be more elaborate if you want to be!

I flicked Heidi Swapp Mint Color Shine specks over the background. Then I used American Crafts Aqua Glitter Tape, plus some washi tape, a Maggie Holmes Sticker, and some punched yellow cardstock, as strips along the bottom. The notebook is finished off with a Jillibean Soup Chilled Cucumber journal card, which has some crystal stickles added to the sunshine:

Because of course my projects have a bit of sparkle!

Be Inspired:

Alter a cheap and cheerful item to give it a new lease of life

Create a project that’s flat but has a variety of mediums / textures

Flick some mist drops!

What would you use this notebook for?

  • Lovely Note Book, I use one to write out my daily to do lists so I can feel a sense of achievement when I get to tick something off and can look back at the end of the day and see how much I have got done is very rewarding. Maybe its Sad but it helps me feel that I am getting some where with how I want things to be. 🙂
